Author: KETHAN UMAKANTH, KEERTHI SASANKA.L, VENKATESH KOMMI, SMILINE GIRIJA AS
Abstract: In recent years, there has been a growing interest in choosing a career preference in dentistry. There has been no proper knowledge /information on future aspirations of how a dental student chooses his/her career. There has been an increase about dental education and its specialities among different populations thus many patients prefer to consult a specialist rather than just an undergraduate due to which the stakes have increased further for dental students and it has become a priority now. This survey/study was carried out to determine the factors on which the UG dental students choose a speciality. It's a cross-sectional study that contains a questionnaire of 7-10 questions. This questionnaire was given to 100 participants from saveetha dental college. the data was collected and analysed. 70% of participants believed that personal interest was considered to be one of the main factors for choosing a speciality. The other 10%, however, did not believe as such which shows that there might be a few negative factors that can also impact on choosing a speciality .example: peer pressure, 60% also another important factor and 8% believed that it wasn't. There are many factors which can be considered to aspire students to choose a speciality. continuous research needs to be done because the factors can change with time
