Author: AMIRTHA VARSHINI, LAKSHMINARAYANAN ARIVARASU
Abstract: Herbal sources have their origins in ancient cultures. It involves the medicinal use of plants to treat infections.Since ancient times, herbs have been used as natural treatments for various illnesses, including viral infections. Treatment with herbal plants is considered safe as there are no or minimal side effects. The various diseases which have been treated with common home remedies include jaundice, gastrointestinal disorders , tooth and gum disorders etc. Even today this area holds much hidden treasure as almost 80% of the human population in developing countries is dependent on plant resources for health care.A questionnaire based survey was conducted among 100 public people in order to collect information on herbal sources used against infection and the results were analysed statistically. From this study, we come to know that 92% of the people are aware that herbal sources can be used to treat or prevent infection. The most commonly used sources are neem and turmeric. Most of the people prefer usage of herbal sources over allopathic medicines. We conclude that most of the people are aware that herbal sources can be used against infections and the most widely used sources are neem and turmeric. More awareness is needed about the medicinal values of each source. The aim of the study is to analyse the common herbal sources used by the public against infection
