A new age treatment strategy for treating oral ulcers / oral lichen planus is the self adhesive eluding patch - the Rivelin patch. Oral ulcers are one or more painful sores on inner lips, gums, tongue , roof of mouth or throat that can cause severe pain and interfere with mastication, such as a canker sore. They are usually caused by stress, burns, allergic reactions, cheek biting, or eating acidic or sour foods like pineapple. Oral lichen planus is a chronic inflammatory condition that targets the mucous membrane of the oral cavity. The oral lichen planus appears as white ,lacy patches or red swollen tissue , or even open sores at times. The may cause burning sensation , pain and discomfort while eating. Trigger factors include painkillers, high blood pressure , malaria medications, diabetes drugs. The patch is designed to obtain mucoadhesive to the affected area which achieves in providing longer duration of contact between the drug and the ulcer, thereby requiring minimal quantities of exposure to drugs. The uniqueness of the recent advancement provides a unique treatment strategy, which can cure two or more lesions in the oral cavity at the same time with reduced quantities of steroids i,e multiple patches can be applied onto the lesions simultaneously. Phase. 11 clinical trials going on the patch will soon reach out to the market as It received a positive response and public satisfaction. The study reviews the uses, advantages and disadvantages of the rivelin patch, emphasising on the efficiency and feasibility of the patch.
