Married women's unmet need for family planning – A study from rural Maharashtra

Different ladies who are explicitly amazing would need to avoid winding up being pregnant in any case everything considered are not utilizing any technique for contraception. These women are considered to have an 'unmet need' for family planning. Study was conducted in rural Maharashtra which was cross sectional, community based study. The aim of study was to find out the extent and socio-demographic correlates of unmet need for family planning. A total 26 (16.2%) out of 160 women had unmet need for contraceptives. Among those 16 (61.5%) & 10 (38.5%) were having unmet need for spacing and limiting respectively. as age advanced and number of children increased the unmet need is also increased for limiting. The causes for unmet need are lack of knowledge, opposition by family members and husband and fear about health concerns and side effects. Study concluded that Health programs are to be held to promote use of contraceptives and raise awareness about family planning. Eligible couples are to be counselled about accessibility, quality and safety of various contraceptive methods.
