Detection of Microbial Otitis Infections Using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), in Erbil Iraq

Author: , SHLER ALI KHORSHEED
Abstract: Infection of external or internal ear leads to hard and annoys pain, which cause a disturb in the patient life, the reasons of these infection mostly due to different type of pathogens, the aim of the current research is to identify the most common pathogens that cause the Otitis among adult & children, where the sample of the research comprises 100 patients from who admitted Educational Rezgary hospital, Erbil Iraq, their age ranging between 4-60 years old, the traditional isolation method has been used, then (PCR) technique was used to identify pathogen bacteria in the negative isolates,, the research concluded to many results from which the most common pathogen bacteria for Otitis are P.aeruginosa by percentage (31.2%) followed by Staphylococcus aureus 20 (25%).while Proteus spp has been observed in 16 cases (20%), Streptococcus spp was recorded in 14 cases (17.5%). The detected pathogenic bacteria varied in their sensitivity towards antibiotics, gram negative bacteria for example Pseudomonas aeruginosa has a high sensitivity to Ciprofloxamin and Gentamycin, while gram positive ones for example Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pygogenes have high sensitivity towards Amoxcillin by percentage 90,100 respectively. The research concluded that PCR is a valid, fast, easy, and accurate method for identification of pathogen microbes.
