Analysis and Visualisation of Research Trends in Southern Blight: A General Review

Abstract:

Southern blight is a fungal infection caused by the pathogen “Sclerotium rolfsii”. This pathogen is found in soil and affects the stem near the soil surface and roots. This disease can be transmitted from plant to plant, by unsanitized equipment, contaminated soil. This bibliometric analysis had been conducted to understand the active authors, organizations, journals, and countries involved in the research domain of “Southern blight”. All published articles related to “Southern blight” from “Scopus”, were analyzed using the VOS viewer to develop analysis tables and visualization maps. This article had set the objective to consolidate the literature regarding the “Southern blight” and also to find out the trends related to the same. The most active journals related to this plant disease are Plant Disease, Phytopathology, and Journal of Bacteriology. The USA is the country where active research is going on regarding southern blight, followed by the Philippines. The top organizations focusing on southern blight are North Carolina University and the Cornell University of USA. The most active author who had made valuable contributions related to southern blight are Balint-Kurti P.J., Datta K., Dahlbeck D., Keen N., Napoli C, Staskawicz B., and Li X.
