Bio-Control Management of Taro Leaf Blight Caused by Phytophthora Colocasiae

Author: POOJA KAPOOR, ABHISHEK KATOCH, KOMAL CHAUDHARY
Abstract: Colocasiae esculenta grow all tropical and subtropical regions of the world . This is 14th major foodcrop . This crop is most devastating with fungal disease which bring on major loss in its yield. Leaf blight is the fungal disease which caused by Phytophthora colocasiae and occurs almost all parts of world where the Colocasia esculenta is grown. Different methods are applied by farmers to control this disease. Many of farmers use chemical fertilizers to manage this disease and these chemical fertilizers brings many harmful effects to plant , soil and human health. Despite of chemical fertilizers nowdays, fungicides use is increase to manage this leaf blight in taro plant like, Metalaxyl , Trichoderma aureoviride , Trichoderma harzianum and funguran-OH etc. , which provide satisfactory results . Within these fungicides in latest studies Citrus aurantifolia essential oils also use to manage this disease which provide best results to management of this disease . These essential oils are obtain from leaves & epicarp of citrus aurantifolia by using hydro distillation technique. These oils have antimicrobial properties. Important component in essential oils are important component of leaf oil are Limonene(48.96%) , Bornyl acetate (14.18%) , Myrcene (3.14%) , Geranial (3.93%) , Geraniol(10.53%) & in epicarp main components are cis-hydrate sabinene (7.53%) , Limonene(59.09%) , Myrtenol(5.02%) , Terpine-4-ol (3.48%) . each of them oil has antimicrobial activities which help to resist mycelial growth & sporangium production at concentration of 500 -900ppm for mycelial & 400-800ppm for sporangium production. To control leaf blight in taro plant we discuss different bio-control methods .
