Abstract:

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are allotropes of carbon, such as diamond, graphite or fullerenes. There are different types of CNT's depending on the graphite layers that form them, these can be single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNT's) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT's). In the present work the functionalization chemistry of carbon nanotubes with different functional groups such as amines, carboxylic acids, salts of diazonium, in addition to the techniques used to carry out the functionalization; the properties of nanotubes carbon and its importance for biological applications such as its antibacterial activity, its use as biosensors and as drug transporters.
