Effects of ciprofloxacin on liver and kidney functions and histopathological features in rats

Abstract:

he aim of the current work was to evaluate the effects of ciprofloxacin on hepatic as well as renal tissues
with evaluation of its functions. A thirty albino rats both sexes with age 6-8 weeks and weighted 120-180g
were adapted for 2 weeks for this study. These rats were equally divided into 2 groups, G1 serve as control
and G2 given daily 100mg/kg ciprofloxacin orally for 30 days. The animals were scarified after end of
experiment and liver as well as kidney were kept in formalin 10 % till histological preparation done. The results
showed necrosis, vacuolar degeneration, inflammatory cells infiltrations, and congestion in blood vessels in
both hepatic and renal tissues.
In conclusion, hepatic and renal damage occur after ciprofloxacin treatment for 30 days at a dose of 100mg/kg.
