Author: PRANEEKSHA RAVICHANDRAN, DR.DHANRAJ GANAPATHY, DR.KEERTHI SASANKA
Abstract: Iodine is essential for healthy brain development in the fetus and young child. Iodine deficiency negatively affects the health of women, as well as economic productivity and quality of life. It is the most common cause of preventable mental impairment throughout the world. It has become very recognized that the consequences of iodine deficiency, including impaired brain development and low IQ in children, and nodules and hyperthyroidism in adults, can occur in the absence of clinical manifestation, such as cretinism and goiter. A questionnaire was prepared and administered to 100 participants through survey planet – an online survey. The study participants included people belonging to a dental college. Before the start of study, a detailed explanation was given to the participants. Once the survey was done, data was collected and analysed by using proper statistics. From this study, the dental students were aware about the uses of iodised salt and some students had iodine deficiency, this shows that even though they were aware they were reluctant about their health and hygiene.Awareness was created about the uses of iodised salt among the students and they were also informed about the benefits about using it.
