Morphometric Analysis of Supraorbital and Infraorbital Foramina Relative to Surgical Landmarks in South Indian Dry Skull

Author: PREETHI SHANKAR, DINESH PREMAVATHY
Abstract: The supraorbital and infraorbital foramina serve as important anatomical and surgical landmarks. They transmit supraorbital nerves and vessels and infraorbital nerves and vessels respectively. The present study aimed to conduct the morphometric analysis of supraorbital and infraorbital foramina in relation to various surgical landmarks. The present study adopted 50 south Indian dry skulls for measuring supraorbital and infraorbital foramen and its related surgical landmarks on both right and left sides. The vernier caliper has been used for measuring the above parameters. The results were expressed as graphs. The present study thus concluded that the morphometric knowledge of supraorbital and infraorbital foramen with its relative surgical landmarks is of utmost importance for surgeons and anaesthetists for safer approach and performing safer procedures.
Keyword: Supraorbital foramen, infraorbital foramen, surgeons, landmarks.
