Introduction: the parapetrosal triangle is an important anatomical landmark located at the base of the skull and is useful in complex neurosurgeries. It is bounded by the bispinal line, the spinopterygoid line and the sagittal midline which is the common side between the right and left parapetrosal triangles. To assist neurosurgeons in complex skull base surgeries, the parapetrosal triangle can be considered as an anatomical landmark that encompases important structures such as foramen lacerum, foramen spinosum and the parapetrosal internal carotid artery. The present study was conducted to morphometrically analyse the parapetrosal triangle. Materials and methods: the right and left parapetrosal triangles in 50 South Indian dry skulls were measured using a digital vernier calliper and the results were tabulated and graphically interpreted. Result: the right and left parapetrosal triangles showed similar measurements with a small standard deviation of about 3mm. Conclusion: the morphometric measurements of the parapetrosal triangle proved to be useful in the base of the skull surgeries.
