The duration of orthodontic treatment is the primary concern of most patients. Unfortunately, long orthodontic treatment time poses several disadvantages like higher predisposition to dental caries, gingival recession and root resorption. The Purpose of this study was to assess the awareness and practice of accelerated orthodontic procedures among orthodontic senior residents in Chennai city. A survey consisting of 10 closed ended questions was distributed among 100 Orthodontic Senior residents using an online survey platform. To assess the association between various parameters Chi square tests with 95% confidence level was done. Majority of the residents preferred surgical procedures over non-surgical methods. Chi square test showed that a significant association exists between patients preference and the type of accelerated orthodontic procedure (p<0.05). Within the limitation of the study it can be concluded that both Orthodontic residents and patients prefer to accelerate orthodontic tooth movement. Surgical procedures were considered for their efficiency by residents and non-surgical procedures were preferred by patients since they were non invasive.
