Evaluation Of Quality Of Obturation And Instrumentation Time Using Kedo-S Square File, H File And K File In Primary Molars– A Randomized Controlled Trial

Author: LAKSHMI LAKSHMANAN, GANESH JEEVANANDAN
Abstract: Pulpectomy is the choice of treatment to preserve the necrotic primary teeth in the dental arch until exfoliation. The primary step in pulpectomy is the biomechanical preparation of root canals using different instrumentation techniques. The aim of this study was to evaluate the quality of obturation and instrumentation time using Kedo-S Square rotary file, conventional H and K files in primary molars. This randomized controlled trial involved 45 primary molars that are equally distributed for instrumentation with Kedo-S Square rotary file, conventional H and K files. Instrumentation time was recorded in seconds and post-operative radiographs were taken to assess the quality of obturation. Statistically significant difference was noted in the instrumentation time between the three groups, with least instrumentation time in Kedo-S Square file group (73.4 s). Also significant difference was observed in the quality of obturation between the groups, with higher optimal fill in Kedo-S Square file group (67%). Based on the findings of this study, the rotary system provided better quality of obturation with a higher number of optimal obturation and reduced instrumentation time as compared to manual instrumentation.
