Survey on awareness of dental status and harmful side effects on carbonated drink consumers

Author: S.SIVAHARINI , RAKSHAGAN V
Abstract: The aim of the study is to evaluate the knowledge and awareness of dental status and harmful side effects on carbonated drink consumers. A cross section survey was conducted with the general population regardless of age and gender. A total of 100 people’s responses were recruited into the survey. The data was collected by using the pre-constructed questionnaire. After data collection, the data was analysed and made into pie charts. The concept of understanding the harmful effects of carbonated drinks among people as well as their attitudes toward dental awareness was explored. From this study, we concluded that many people consumed carbonated drinks but they are not aware of the harmful effects of carbonated drinks. Among these, 43% responded that they consume carbonated drinks at least once per day while an astonishing 40% responded that they consume carbonated drinks almost twice to thrice daily. When asking the question of having dental problems, more than 70% answered yes. 74% also admitted to brushing their teeth only once daily. We concluded that the level of awareness about the health hazards caused by the consumption of carbonated drinks was not adequate. Print and social and electronic media can play a very fruitful role in this regard.
