Abstract: Anxiety is a flight or fight response to an anticipated threat . Dentists routinely encounter patents with dental anxiety and find it extremely difficult to treat and manage such patients. Many menthols have been developed over the years to manage dental anxiety in patients . There were many pharmacological and non pharmacological management methods present. Aromatherapy is one of the most efficient and widely used non pharmacological methods to manage dental anxiety in a clinic. The aim of the study was to evaluate the knowledge awareness and perception of aromatherapy among dental students and dental practitioners. A questionnaire based survey was conducted mang 150 sturends and dental practitioners. Questionnaire was distributed through a survey link. Results were collected and Graphs were added to represent the level of significance between the parameters. The results of the study showed that 91.4% of the study group were aware about aromatherapy used to help in managing the patients dental anxiety. 56% of the students and practitioners who took up the survey used distractions methods such as audio visual aids in helping with patients' anxiety and relaxing them during the course of the treatment. 76% of the study group thought aromatherapy will be helpful in treating aphthous ulcers. 71.34% of the students and dental practitioners answered that aromatherapy will be effective in managing dental anxiety of the patient in a clinical setting. From this study we were able to conclude that dental practitioners were more aware about aromatherapy being used as a method to reduce dental anxiety as they had more clinical experience in dealing with patients and over the years through trial and error they have found newer and effective ways in dealing with the patients anxiety.
