Evaluation of participation level in developmental coordination disorder- pilot study

Author: GANAPATHY SANKAR.U, MONISHA.R, S.SUBASH
Abstract: Children with developmental coordination disorder experiences difficulty in performing the activities of daily living skills that require the children to use motor coordination. To assess the participation of children in activities that require motor coordination, many questionnaires were developed and they differ in their structure and addresses different domains from the parents as well as school teachers perspectives. The current study aims to assess the participation level of children with DCD from the parents as well as teachers perspectives. From the literature there are six questionnaires identified, MABC checklist, Revised DCDQ, DCD Daily questionnaire, Motor observation questionnaire for teachers, children activity scales for teachers. When the sensitivity and specificity of various questionnaires were collected from literature evidence it has been evident that in different studies it has been quoted that DCDQ is having divergent and inconclusive results over the different subtypes of children with DCD. The study concludes that children with DCD has poor perception of self and avoids participation with peer group children in sports as well show poor participation in academic tasks. Further with the appropriate selection of questionnaire or tool with gold standard measurement, the study has to be repeated with large sample of children with DCD to generalize the findings.
