DSM V criteria elaborates the term DCD- developmental coordination disorder, the definition elaborated the characteristics of children to be suspected as having DCD. They should have impairment in motor task execution. This impairment will have a greater impact on the Childs academic achievement and Activities of daily living skills. Developmental coordination disorder is defined as neurological disorder, with established difficulty in performing task that involves the children’s motor coordination skill. Ultimately children with DCD have trouble in visual perception, bilateral coordination and poor posture. Thus they encounter failure in catching and throwing tasks. When observed their academic performance, these children have established difficulty in holding their pen or pencil as they have poor hand muscle strength. These observation skills help in identifying children with DCD. Research Studies have established that children with gross motor difficulty will not outgrow of their defect at adulthood. These children have poor academics and sports activity and majority of the researchers have highlighted on the consequences of frequent failures experienced by children with DCD. The current study aims to examine the working memory in 10 children suspected as having DCD. This pilot study indicates that children with DCD have pervasive memory defect in memory measures. However to specify, they have defect in visuo-spatial short term and working memory than verbal memory. Based on their visuo-spatial memory, children were evaluated for their learning skill defect and when their ability to perform motor coordination defect was analyzed working memory plays a vital part. To enhance the learning skill among children with DCD there is a need for delivering intervention to enhance the working memory and there is a need for intervention that is individually tailored for children with DCD.
