Author: GANAPATHY SANKAR.U, MONISHA.R, S.SUBASH
Abstract: Research evidence suggests that children with Developmental coordination disorder will never outgrow of their problems on their own and if not underwent with adequate intervention sessions and early identification, these children will develop severe psychiatric illness and social negativism. In this current study, we evaluate various assessment tools that identify children with DCD and when research evidence was evaluated in detail these children have trouble with motor coordination skills. Difficulties that progress each and every day and without practice and training it is merely impossible for the children to learn any specific motor tasks that underlying activities of daily living skills. Using ICF- International classification of functioning framework, children with DCD can be described by means of their impairments with body functioning and the whole body movement difficulties while performing ADL tasks and difficulties with participation in peer group sporting activities. Instruments that assess the motor impairments will identify children who will be benefitted from the treatment strategies used. Few assessment tools that targets the participation level of children will change over time and assessment designed to measure the activities of daily living of children with DCD will be used to assess the progress of children over the scale of time. In the present study, commonly used assessment tools were evaluated in detail and related with ICF framework of classification. Interventions for children with DCD should be designed in a way that targets the all the major domains involved. Prevention of secondary impairments should also be taken into consideration, when designing the intervention sessions.
