Nanotechnology is concerned with the production and use of nanoscale-dimensional material. Nanoscale dimension provides a large surface area to volume ratio and therefore very specific properties. Due to its wide bandwidth and strong exciton binding capacity, selenium nanoparticles (Selenium NPs) have had potential applications such as antibacterial , antifungal, anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory, wound healing, antioxidant, and optical properties in recent studies. Because of the high rate of toxic chemicals and the extreme environment used in the physical and chemical production of these NPs, green methods have been adopted which use plants. Plant parts such as roots, leaves, stems, seeds, fruits have also been used for the synthesis of NPs as their extract is rich in phytochemicals that act as both reducing and stabilizing agents. The use of plant extracts to synthesize nanoparticles may be beneficial over microbial synthesis by removing the lavish culturally preserving procedures. Despite the fact that a large number of plants are reported for the synthesis of nanoparticles, few reports on the phytogenic synthesis of SeNPs are available. Fortunately, the recent increase in nanotechnology has provided us with an infinite variety of applications in biomedicine and food science. Nanoparticles particularly have a wide range of applications in the biological sciences. The relevant articles were collected from the period of 2000 to 2020 (till date) analysed and review was done. This Study is an detailed study of the synthesis and methods used in different plant mediators for the green synthesis of selenium NPs.
