Predictors and child’s correlates of malnutrition among a sample of Iraqi children

Abstract: Background: Children's health needs change with development, and the care for their nutrition and healthiness within the setting of the overall developmental stage. Primary malnutrition also continues to occur in developed countries; especially in infants and children within the first 2 years of life and this effect of this early damage on health, brain development. Methods: This is a prospective study performed in the nutrition department during the period of 2020. The total number of children within the 6 months of the study who was registered to the hospital was 100. Patient’s data were collected based on a special questionnaire designed according to the requirements of the study with a scoring technique SD score. Results: 36(36%) of the pediatrics were male and 64(64%) were female, 82% of them birth less than 2.5 kg weight ,severe thinning type of malnutrition represent 97 and (97%),the pediatrics that present with anemia were 72%.Beside that 78% of the pediatrics took vaccination. Moreover 89% of the pediatrics has lost weight recently with a significant result. Conclusion: The distribution of malnutrition in this current study suggest that malnutrition seems consistently present in consideration with the differences in the socioeconomic status and according to their dietary and development patterns for the pediatrics.
