Awareness of factors affecting endodontic treatment failure among dental students- A Survey

Author: PUSHPAANJALI.G , J. MAHALAKSHMI, LESLIE RANI.S
Abstract: Aim: The aim of the study is to create awareness of the factors affecting endodontic treatment failure among dental students. Introduction: Endodontic treatment failure due to inappropriate mechanical debridement, poor obturation quality, and coronal leakage are some of the commonly attributed causes for failure. The failure of endodontic treatment can be resolved on the basis of clinical signs and symptoms and radiographic findings of the root canal treated teeth. It is shown that many factors are considered and are responsible for endodontic treatment failure. And it includes residual necrotic pulp tissue, presence of periradicular infection, periodontal disease, broken instruments, mechanical perforation, missed canals or unfilled canals Materials and Methods: The Questionnaires had been prepared and distributed to 100 participants of dental students. The resulting data have been analysed using SPSS statistical software. Descriptive statistical analysis was carried out and chi square test was used and p value was calculated. Results and Discussion: Most of the participants of the survey were aware about the factors affecting endodontic treatment failure. 72.38% of people have encountered a failed endodontic treatment and 26.67% of people have not encountered a failed endodontic treatment . Conclusion: From this study it can be concluded that dental students are aware about the factors affecting endodontic treatment failure.
