Knowledge and awareness on tooth brush and its replacement among dental students

Abstract: Introduction: Toothbrushes play an important role in oral hygiene and are widely used by everybody . Toothbrush should be renewed every 2 to 8 months. The main complaint of toothbrushes are the microorganisms can be contaminated if not cleaned properly. Proper maintenance of toothbrushes is very important for oral hygiene. Aim: The aim of this study is to analyse the knowledge and awareness of tooth brush and it’s replacement among dental students. Materials and Methods: A cross sectional survey was conducted in the month of March to April 2020 among 180 dental students through a self administrated questionnaire through an online survey link (I.e.) google forms . The responses were collected and statistically analysed. Chi square test was used to analyze and compare the education level of students and their knowledge on toothbrushes and it’s replacement . The confidence level was 95% and of statistical significance P< 0.05. The method of representation of data used here is bar charts. Results: 91.2% of the dental students were aware of knowledge on toothbrushes and 76% of the dental students advised the patient regarding tooth brush storage and disinfection. Conclusion: Majority of the undergraduate dental students had moderate knowledge on toothbrushes and it’s replacement.
