Introduction: Orthodontics involve correction of malocclusion. Malocclusion is the malalignment of teeth between the arches . The main complaint about malalignment is esthetics, difficulty with speech, and mastication. Orthodontic treatment is an option to correct the malocclusion in early stages . The aim of the study is to analyse the knowledge and awareness of orthodontic treatment among parents .
Materials and methods: A descriptive cross sectional survey was conducted in the month of march to april 2020 among 101 parents through a self administered questionnaire. The responses were collected, tabulated in excel sheet and analysed using SPSS software. Chi square test was used to analyze the level of knowledge on orthodontic treatment among parents with statistical significance of P< 0.05.
Results: In the present study 81.2% of parents were aware of improper positioning of teeth and 78.2% of parents considered braces treatment as an option for correcting the teeth at an early-stage.
Conclusion: In our study, parents in general had average knowledge and awareness regarding orthodontic treatment. On comparing different education levels, graduated parents have good knowledge and awareness on orthodontic treatment compared to other parents.
