Knowledge awareness and practice on fixed prosthodontics among interns, specialists and practitioners -a survey.

There are various treatment modalities for replacement of missing teeth and fixed partial denture (FPD) remains the most definitive treatment option after dental implants. The success of the fixed partial denture depends on the success of the impression and it is based on the creating accurate and decipherable tooth preparation using impression material and proper techniques. Hence, the aim of this study was to assess the knowledge awareness and practice on fixed prosthodontics among dental students and practitioners. A total of 230 participants participated in this survey. An online based survey was conducted and distributed through google forms. The data were collected and tabulated in excel sheets which was transferred to SPSS software for statistical analysis. Chi square test is also performed to check for clinical significance. Among 230 participants 35.2 % were males 64.78% were females, majority of the respondents were final years 61% and most of them work in dental college 68.26%. About 57.3% fabricated the cast before starting with the preparation and nearly 62.61% preoperative radiograph to evaluate the abutment teeth. About 46.09% participants check the the vitality of the restored tooth, 66.96% uses high speed handpiece, 50% uses diamond bur, 57.39% uses addition silicone for taking final impression, majority of about 69.57% uses putty wash technique, 44.78% take bite registration always, 60.87% uses wax the most of use the bite registration material, 56.52% gives temporary crown after preparation, 46.09% always disinfect the impression and about 51.74% uses both verbal communication and written prescription to the lab technicians.Within the limits of the present study, it is concluded that the interns,general practitioners have adequate knowledge on the fixed prosthodontics.
