Diabetes is characterized by hyperglycemia due tovarious metabolic disorders of carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, water
and electrolytesdue to relative or absolute lack of insulin excretion from pancreatic beta cells, disturbance in the
mechanism of action of insulin or both. The existing study was carried out to explore the nearof ANGPTL8 gene in
diabetic patients and its relationship with lipid profile. One hundred blood samples were collected from diabetic and
normal men aged 50 to 65 years at endocrinology and diabetic center, Thi-Qar, Iraq, for ANGPTL8 gene expression
and assessment of HbA1c, lipid profiles (TG, LDL and HDL) and betatrophin. The results revealed significant
elevation of serum TG, LDL, HbA1c and betatrophin concentrations as well as blood ANGPTL8 gene expression level
and significant decline of serum HDL concentration in diabetic patients than normal men.
