Photostability deals with the effect of light on stability of pharmaceutical substances / products. Light sensitive drugs
are rapidly affected by natural light or artificial light. This is a serious threat to stability of the drug. Ofloxacin photolabile
drug are chose as a model light sensitive drug. Cationic exchange resins are used for loading to improve photostability of
drug. Photolabile drugs can uptake moisture and absorbed light, when it was exposed under accelerated condition. Ofloxacin-
ion exchange resin exchange their mobile ion stoichiometrically and reversibility. Hence Drug resin complex was not
absorbed light or moisture under accelerated condition, because resin was completely bound to the drug, but this cationic
resin complex was released drug in resin complex in to stomach. Ofloxacin is a fluorquinolone characterized by photochemical
instability. With the goal to improve its photostability in aqueous solutions, the complexation of Ofloxacin with ?-
cyclodextrin was investigated. The complexes showed a water solubility enhancement of approximately 2.6 times; nevertheless,
the photodegradation of Ofloxacin was not reduced. Both the complexes obtained were characterized by ultra violet
visible spectroscopy, high performance liquid chromatography analysis & fourier transformer infra red spectroscopic, and
determined the percentage of drug content. Finally, Photostability evaluation of drug and complexes under Accelerated conditions
of temperature and humidity in the absence and in the presence of light and determination of in-vitro drug release
profile of both complexes and evaluate it.
