A medium sized tree, up to 15 m high, distributed almost throughout India. Leaves 15-45 cm. long, deciduous in the
cold season; leaflets 6-10 pairs and an odd one, opposite or nearly so, subsessile, sometimes 15 cm. long, lanceolate or
ovate-lanceolate, usually acuminate, oblique, crenate, pubescent when young, at length glabrous. The primary phytochemical
study and in vitro anti oxidant study was performed on 70% hydroalcoholic extract of shade dried leaves. The 70%
hydroalcoholic extract of Garuga pinnata were prepared and evaluated for its primary phytochemical analysis for total
phenolic content and in vitro anti oxidant activity study by DPPH free radical scavenging activity, super oxide free radical
activity and nitric oxide scavenging activity. Results indicate that 70% hydroalcoholic leaves extract of Garuga pinnata have
marked amount of total phenols which could be responsible for the anti oxidant activity. The mechanism and chemicals
remains unclear and could be further investigated by detailed phytochemical investigation.
