Spectrophotometric Estimation of Roxithromycin in Bulk and Pharmaceutical Preparation

| Abstract:
|
A simple and sensitive spectrophotometric method has been developed for determination of roxithromycin
in its pharmaceutical dosage forms. In the proposed method, roxithromycin is hydrolysed in the presence of
3.6M hydrochloric acid in acetic acid medium and p-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde to form a blue-coloured
chromogen with absorption maxima at 485 nm. The method is found to be linear in the concentration range of 5-
50 µg/ml with regression coefficient of 0.9987. The method was validated and can be used successfully to assay
roxithromycin in its pharmaceutical dosage form, viz, tablets.
