In the running trend researchers are concentrating on visualising 2-D images in a better way using 3-D processing
algorithms. A three dimensional image basically consists of voxels which exemplify a specific property. These are
arranged in such a way that they form an array of three dimension. In this paper, we propose a novel framework to
visualise and process three dimension images using hexagonal lattice - Z3 grid. Initially 2D image is processed using 3D
rectangular voxel lattice and visualised. Then, hexagonal voxel lattice is implemented and visualisation is compared.
Results show that the ability of such processing is to rotate the image in all 4? directions. Further, features
extraction is performed which extracts volumetric features of 3D images such as ‘edge ’ and compared with
Different Morphological edge detection algorithms. Advanced techniques used to extract such features in 3D
images are explained with real time MRI data sets.
