Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a severe inflammation of the pancreas that can be of 2 major types: mild AP (MAP) and
severe AP (SAP). To study the therapeutic effect of Ibudilast in comparison with Octreotide, in the rat model of AP
by studying inflammatory and oxidative pathways. A total of 48 male rats were divided into 8groups with each group
consisting of 6 rats. Acute pancreatitis was induced by two doses of L-arginine at a dose of 250 mg/100 g of body
weight intraperitoneally (IP).Octreotide and Ibudilast, their combination and their solvents were administered in
separate groups at 0, 8 and 16 hours after induction. After 24 hours of treatment, blood samples were withdrawn for
ELISA test to determine the interleukin-1 beta (IL-1ß) level, total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and the lipase enzyme
(LPS) level. Then, extraction of the pancreas was employed for the histological examination and for gel
electrophoresis to determine the extent of expression of the Nuclear Factor-Kappa B (NF-?B).
