Microsponge is novel drug delivery system formulated for topical and/or oral administration. Microsponges are porous microspheres biologically inert particles that are made up of polymer and serves to protect entrapped drug compound from physical and environmental degradation. Size of microsponge varies from 5-300 µm in diameter. Benzyol peroxide is topically used drug for treatment of acne. Skin irritation, peeling is common side effects of benzyol peroxide. It has been shown that controlled release of benzyol peroxide from delivery system to the skin could reduce side effects while reducing percutaneous absorption. Tuhs microsponge of benzyol peroxide is prepared by quasi emulsion solvent diffusion method to reduce side effects. The effect of different polymers on physicochemical properties of microsponge was investigated. Microsponges were prepared by using internal phase consisting of polymer (ethyl cellulose and eudragit RS 100), BPO and dichloromethane, ethanol which is poured into external phase consisting aqueous polyvinyl alcohol solution. From in-vitro diffusion study it was revealed that microsponge prepared by using polymer ethyl cellulose shows greater drug release as compared to eudragit RS 100
