Estimation of Isoxsuprine hydrochloride in bulk and oral dosage form by visible spectrophotometry

Author: SEKAR MEGAVARNAM, A.M.SEKAR, DR.A.JERAD SURESH, , DR. V. NIRAIMATHI
Abstract: Two simple, sensitive, accurate and precise spectrophotometric methods have been developed for the estimation of isoxsuprine hydrochloride in pharmaceutical dosage form. Method A is based on reaction of isoxsuprine hydrochloride with ferric chloride and 1, 10-phenanthroline to form blood red coloured chromogen, exhibiting absorption maximum at 408nm. Method B is based on the reaction of isoxsuprine hydrochloride with ferric chloride and potassium ferri cyanide to form bluish green coloured chromogen, exhibiting absorption maximum at 715nm. The Beer’s concentration was found to lies between 5-25µg/mL for both Method A & Method B. The methods have been statistically evaluated and were found to be precise and accurate. The proposed methods are economical and sensitive for the estimation of isoxsuprine hydrochloride in bulk drug and formulations.
