COMMUNICATION STRATEGY FOR PUBLIC RELATION OF KARANGANYAR REGENCY IN DEVELOPING TOURISM POTENTIALS IN THE AREA

Author:
Abstract: Located in a plateau,Karanganyar Regency in Central Java Province, Indonesia is suitable for cultivation of plants and has many natural attractions. The potentials of nature, the diversity of arts and culture, the hospitality of its people, and the historical value of the inheritance make it attractive. For this reason, the Regional Government keeps trying to develop its tourism potentialsdue to their biggest income forKaranganyar Regency. Therefore, its public relation needs to have a proper communication strategy. Public Relation is a government partner in carrying out various programs for the regional progress. Although it has a very important role, a study on how to make the Regional Government Public Relation Communication effective in developing tourism potentials to increase regional income has never been conducted.Public Relation not onlyhandles all information that comes in or out of the government office but also plays a role in creating a positive image of its regency. Communication strategies to develop tourism potentials include: (1) Using printed media to promote the tourism potentials. (2) Using electronic media including public and private broadcasting radio stationsto distribute information on tourism (3) Using online media, which is mostlyused by the public even when they tryto find information on tourism.Intense distibution of the information will increase the number of tourists visiting Karanganyar Regency. However, there is still a problem in the development of tourism objects, namely the cleanliness of tourism objects. Also, the off days for public relation and related serviceofficers on Saturdays and Sundaysbecomes obstacles in developing tourism potentials.
