Abstract: Hyperthyroidism is the most common disorder which is caused due to excessive production of thyroid hormones like T3, T4 and TSH. In present study of evaluation of hypothyroid activity hydro alcoholic leaf extract of Adhatoda vasica is done on propylthiouracil induced hyperthyroidism. Animals are divided into 5 groups 6 animals in each group. 100mg/kg dose of plant extract has shown significant effect compared to that of levothyroxine treated group. T3, T4 and TSH levels in blood are estimated by collecting the blood from retro-orbital route. The plant extract has reduced the effect of PTU. The results are expressed in mean±SD. The data of antithyroid activity is analyzed by one way analysis of variance (ANOVA). The result has shown significant p value <0.0001.Further studies are required in order to identify the mechanism of action and identification of phytochemical constituents.
