Formulation,Development and Evaluation of Cosmeceutical Night Cream containing Herbal Components

Abstract: The present study is done to develop a cosmeceutical night cream, evaluate it and to carry out comparative study of prepared formulation with the marketed cream. Shat Dhaut Ghrita is one of the popular ayurvedic skin formulation used as a topical product for the treatment of skin disease. Shat Dhaut Ghrita is prepared by washing pure desi ghee 100 times with water. The present formulation is evaluated by modern scientific parameters. Curcuma longa belongs to the Zingiberaceae family and Hibiscus sabdariffa belongs to the Malvaceae family. Both are used as antioxidant. They prevent oxidation and maintain moisturizing effect on the skin. Most of the night cream used as a moisturizing cream use Shat Dhaut Ghrita as base The evaluation of herbal night cream was done by different parameters. Cream is prepared by 0.3% Curcuma longa and 0.3% of Hibiscus sabdariffa in Shat Dhaut Ghrita as a base. Cream formulation was evaluated by checking pH , viscosity, Spreadability and moisturizing test. From the result it is found that present cream containing Curcuma longa and Hibiscus sabdariffa shows the better moisturizing activity i.e. (65.4%) than the marketed formulation i.e. (50.1%). The formulated product does not show any irritation signs on volunteers and has more moisturising activity than marketed formulation.
