This study is devoted to isolation and identification of Proteus mirabilis; from patients suffering from urinary tract
infections(UTIs). A total of 300 samples were collected from two major hospitals atHilla city; Hilla Teaching Hospital
and Mergan teaching hospital. From October 2017toApril2018. All isolates were tested biochemically and it was
found that only 50 isolates (16.66%) from all isolates were belonging toproteus mirabilis. Biofilm formation was also
investigated using tissue culture plate . Proteus mrabilis show variability in biofilm producing ability , twenty nine(58%)
isolate of them exhibits strong ability to produce biofilm ,whil21 it was found the production of biofilm of P. mirabilis
show that different potential capacity form biofilm, in urinary tract infection, P. mirabilis is about 29(58%) which are
strong former and the 21 (42%) are mild former and 0(0%) in weak former of biofilm formation .Virulence factors
encoding genes of P. mirabilis is detected by using polymerase chain reaction PCR. It is found that most bacterial
isolates gave positive result for mrpA,pmfA with number and percentage 19(38%), 33(66%) respectively.
