Lipstick is one of the most decorative cosmetic product that is used to colour the lips popularly in women.
Continuous research in cosmetic science and advancement in technology has stretched to work using new ingredients
and materials. In this work, a new natural wax, sunflower wax has been explored to formulate lipstick with desired
qualities. Sunflower Wax is a component of the hull of sunflower (Helianthus annuus) oil seeds. The wax is mainly
composed of long chain (aboutC-60) fatty esters of monovalent fatty alcohols and fatty acids. Minor quantity of fatty
alcoholis also present. In the present studies sunflower wax is used to replace carnauba wax in standard lipstick
formulation with no change in properties and evaluation, thereby providing economical and indigenous alternative to
carnauba wax.
