AN EFFICIENT ALGORITHM FOR MEDICINAL PLANT RECOGNITION

Abstract: Plants play an important role in human’s life. Also, plants are essential for the survival of human beings. There are some plant species which have the medicinal properties. These medicinal plants can be treated for human beings as the ayurvedic medicines with no side effects. It is necessary to recognize and protect those plant species for the welfare of our next generations of the society. Imagine someone is hiking the mountain or taking a field trip in the forest. The person may not be having good knowledge about the plant species. It can be possible to utilize his field trip for the collection of medicinal plants. Here, the person is provided with a digital camera with an efficient program for recognition of plant species. The project aims to recognize the medicinal plant by processing the captured image of plant’s leaf. Here we have implemented an Automatic Leaf Recognition Algorithm (ALRA). This algorithm recognizes the leaf based on its characteristics like structure. The ALRA used in this system, takes very less time for the plant recognition.
