Analytical Study on Lowpass Filter with I-Shaped Defected Ground Structures for Medical ISM Band Applications

Author: MINAKSHMI SHAW, B T P MADHAV, PRADEEP KUMAR, MANAS RANJAN MANTRI, P RAKESH KUMAR
Abstract: A novel microstrip lowpass filter (LPF) with defected ground structure (DGS) for Medical ISM band and wireless communication applications is presented in this paper. Microstrip lowpass filter are developed with reduced size and significantly improved stop band bandwidth. The proposed filter has a wideband rejection from 2.41GHz to 20GHz with 18 dB suppression level. After introducing New Defective Ground Structure (DGS) frequency response characteristic of microstrip lowpass filter is improved and harmonic rejection is also improved from 5th to 10th order along with low insertion loss and voltage standing wave ratio together with good selectivity. The proposed microstrip lowpass filter is designed by embedding it on FR4 substrate having relative permittivity 4.4 with excellent impedance matching of 50 ohms at the feed line.
