Effect of Solvent and Non- Solvent Composition on Physical Characters of Mefloquine Hydrochloride Microsphers

Author: UPLOADED BY-ADMIN, V.A.PATEL, R.S.R. MURTHY, H.V.PATEL, KUNDAWALA AJ
Abstract: Mefloquine hydrochloride (MQH) is considered relatively safe effective antimalarial recommended for prophylaxis and chemotherapy of chloroquine resistant and multidrug resistant falciparum malaria. Malaria kills nearly one million people worldwide mostly in developing countries. In present study an attempt was made to produce ethyl cellulose microspheres of MQH by solvent evaporation method, to see effect of solvent composition on in vitro characterization of microspheres. The prepared Microspheres were investigated for % drug entrapment, particle size and in vitro drug release profile. Particle size ranging from 6.82 ± 0.62µm to 55.58 ± 1.1 µm were obtained with respect to different solvent and non solvent composition as dispersed and continuous phase. From in vitro drug release studies it was observed that the values for t50 and t70 were in range of 5-11 day and 6-15 days respectively.
