The Phytochemical analysis of medicinal plants are gaining importance due the production of the new drugs from plants. The objective of the present research work was to investigate the presence of the phytochemical constituents and to study the bactericidal effect of Ocimum sanctum (OS). Phytochemical screening analyses was determined by using standard protocol methods. The antibacterial activities of OS were estimated by disc diffusion method against different bacterial strains. The results revealed that OS was found to be the predominant occurrence of phytochemicals like flavonoid, phenol, tannins, reducing sugar, glycosides, steroids and terpenoids, while starch resins, are absent. Ethanolic extract of the OS hold promises as a potential source of pharmaceutically important phytochemicals and also have strong antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and other strain than aqueous extract. Hence, the present investigation proves that Ocimum sanctum can be applied as antimrobial agent against bacterial diseases
