The aim of this study was to investigate the nutritional composition, phytochemical constituents and antioxidant activity of Musa balbisiana Colla inflorescence (MBI). The proximate and mineral compositions of MBI are reported and found rich in minerals like potassium (1546.128 ± 31.445 mg/100 g), calcium (503.027 ± 0.910 mg/100 g) and magnesium (108.328 ± 1.159 mg/100 g). The phytochemical screening of methanol extract revealed the presence of alkaloids, phenolics, and flavonoids. 1, 1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assays were used to evaluate the antioxidant activity of methanol extract and showed antioxidant activity with DPPH IC50 value of 229.726 ± 0.718 µg/mL, and FRAP value of 108.046 ± 0.169 µM TE/g dried extract. The total phenolic and flavonoid contents in methanol extract of MBI was found to be 16.318 ± 0.544 mg GAE/g dried extract and 5.209 ± 0.428 mg QE/g dried extract, respectively. The results of the present investigation indicate that MBI is a good source of minerals and natural antioxidant to be incorporated as functional ingredient of diet.
