Antihyperglycemic activity of root extracts of Abroma augusta was evaluated on alloxon induced diabetic rats. Diabetes was induced in albino wistar rats of either sex by single intraperitonial injection (150mglkg b.w.) of freshly prepared alloxon monohydrate. Abroma augusta root extracts in different solvent (viz. petroleum ether, benzene, chloroform, acetone, ethanol and aqueous) were administered to diabetic rats for 21 days. The effect of extracts on blood glucose, lipid profile and body weight was studied on day 1, 7, 14 and 21 of study. The study showed that all root extracts of Abroma augusta exhibited antihyperglycemic activity; but among all aqueous extract exhibited best antihyperglycemic, antihyperlipidemic activity and showed positive effect on body weight of diabetic rat.
