Synthesis and Biological Evaluation of Some Quinolino Sulfonamides for Antimalarial and Antimicrobial Activity

Author: SHILPI SONKER, SHILPI SONKER
Abstract: A simple and regio-selective synthesis of new series of quinolino sulfonamides (4a-4e) and (4a’-4e’) were synthesized by the reaction of appropriate chalcones. The synthesized target compounds were screened for their anti-malarial activity using Vero cell line (C1008; Monkey kidney fibroblast) against Plasmodium falciparum (3D7 strain) with the standard and SI was measured by using IC50 and CC50 of tested compounds. The compounds 4a, 4d, 4c’ and 4e’ showed pronounced anti-malarial activity comparable to the reference standard Chloroquine diphosphate. Additionally, the synthesized compounds were evaluated for their in vitro antimicrobial activity against the representative panel of two gram positive, gram negative and antifungal strain. Four compounds 4a, 4c, 4b’ and 4c’showed considerable broad spectrum activity against all the tested Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial strains whereas 4a, 4d, 4c’ and 4e’ displayed significant antifungal activity.
Keyword: Chalcones, Sulfonamides, Antimalarial activity, Antimicrobial activity, Vero cell line (C1008; Monkey kidney fibroblast), SYBR Green-I (Invitrogen).
