Spectrophotometric Simultaneous Determination of Montelukast Sodium and Fexofenadine Hydrochloride in Combined Dosage Form by Simultaneous Equation Method

Abstract:

A new, simple, accurate, and precise spectrophotometric method for novel antiasthmatic drug combination of Montelukast Sodium (MON) and Fexofenadine hydrochloride (FEX) by Simultaneous equation method. This combination is available as tablet dosage form in the ratio of 1:12. The method involves measurement of absorbance at ?max of 344 nm and 219 nm for MON and FEX respectively. The regression analysis data for the calibration plot showed good linear relationship in the concentration range of 1-6 µg/ml (R2 = 0.999) for Montelukast sodium and 6-36 µg/ml (R2 = 0.999) for Fexofenadine hydrochloride. The average percentage recovery of Montelukast sodium and Fexofenadine hydrochloride combination was found to be 99.53% and 99.93% respectively. The LODs for Montelukast sodium and Fexofenadine hydrochloride were 0.0896µg/ml and 0.2716µg/ml and LOQs were found to be 0.2688µg/ml and 0.8148µg/ml respectively. Statistical analysis proves that the method is precise, reproducible and selective for the simultaneous determination of Montelukast sodium and Fexofenadine hydrochloride.
