Simultaneous Quantitative Estimation of Levocetirizine and Phenylephrine by Different Analytical Methods

Author: UPLOADED BY-ADMIN, G. NAGAMALLESWARI, A. E. PRABAHAR, N. RAMARAO
Abstract: Simple, accurate and precise spectrophotometric methods were developed for simultaneous determination of Phenylephrine and Levocetirizine in combined pharmaceutical dosage form by four different methods. Method A was Simultaneous Equation Method, involves the measurement of absorbance’s at two wavelengths 231 nm (?max of Levocetirizine ) and 275 nm (?max of Phenylephrine).Method B was Q-absorbance ratio method, involves the formation of Q-absorbance equation at 257 nm (iso absorptive point) and 275 nm (?max of Phenylephrine). Method C was Dual Wavelength Method, the wavelengths selected for determination of Levocetirizine were 260 nm and 286 nm, whereas, the wavelengths selected for determination of Phenylephrine were 226 nm and 234 nm. Method D was First Order Derivative Spectroscopy, wavelengths selected for quantitation were 243 nm for Levocetirizine (zero crossing point for Phenylephrine) and 229.0 nm for Phenylephrine (zero crossing point for Levocetirizine).Alcohol was used as solvent. All the four methods obeyed the Beer’s linearity in the range of 5-25µg/ml for Levocetirizine and 10-50 µg/ml for Phenylephrine. The proposed methods were successfully applied to the determination of these drugs in commercial tablets. The results of the analysis have been validated statistically by recovery studies.
Keyword: Simultaneous equation method, Q-absorbance ratio method, Dual wavelength method, First Order Derivative Spectroscopy, Phenylephrine, Levocetirizine.
