Abstract:

Cashew nut gum, an exudate from Anarcardium occidentale L. trees, was evaluated as a pharmaceutical binder.
Granules of paracetamol, a poorly compressible drug and lactose were prepared with varying binder concentration by wet
granulation. Characterization of granules on the basis of micromeritic properties, mechanical properties, compressibility and
compactability was carried out in comparison with standard pharmaceutical binders (gelatin and PVP). Cashew nut gum as a
binder yielded large and uniform granules with good flow properties, compressibility and compactability.
