Present research emphasized the targeting of colorectal cancer by Eudragit coated oral biodegradable microspheres of curcumin. The curcumin loaded Eudragit(s) (Eudragit L100 and Eudragit S100) microspheres were prepared by emulsion solvent evaporation method. Acetone: ethanol solvent systems were evaluated for solubilization of polymers in optimization of formulation. Liquid paraffin was used as dispersion medium and various concentrations of span 80 were tested as a surfactant. Formulation variables considered for optimization were; effect of polymers concentration, surfactant concentration and solvent composition. The effect of variables was observed on responses percent yield (recovery) of microspheres, percent entrapment efficiency of the drug and cumulative percent drug release. The size and surface morphology was determined by optical microscope and scanning electron microscope. Images of scanning electron microscope depicted the spherical structure with a smooth surface morphology.
