Abstract:

The antioxidant activity of the alcoholic extract of the leaves Bauhinia purpurea was
evaluated by the two methods free radical scavenging activity using 1,1-diphenyl-2-
picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay method and by reducing power assay method. The results of the
assay were then compared with a natural antioxidant ascorbic acid (vitamin C). The alcoholic
extract of the leaves of Bauhinia purpurea is a good source of compounds with antioxidant
properties while the extract also exhibited significant free radical scavenging activity and reducing
power activity.
